10-minute jump rope workouts for any level
Three ten-minute sessions, beginner to advanced, with the warm-up built in. Press start and go.

Key points
- Every session includes a 2-minute warm-up and a 1-minute cool-down.
- Beginner: 7 × 30 s on / 30 s off.
- Move up when a level feels like 6/10 for two weeks.
Ten minutes is enough for a real session if you keep the structure tight: a short warm-up, work rounds, and a minute to bring your breathing down. Each workout below takes exactly ten minutes, including the warm-up.
Minute 0–2: the warm-up (all levels)
- 30 s marching or easy jogging on the spot
- 30 s ankle bounces without the rope
- 30 s side swings (both handles in one hand, swing at your side and hop each time the rope hits the floor)
- 30 s easy basic bounce
Beginner: 7 × 30/30
| Time | Do |
|---|---|
| 2:00–9:00 | 7 rounds: 30 s basic bounce, 30 s walk around |
| 9:00–10:00 | Walk, then calf stretch |
Total rope time: 3.5 minutes. If 30 seconds is still a struggle, use the 4-week beginner plan first.
Intermediate: 40/20 footwork mix
| Round | 40 s work | 20 s |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Basic bounce | Rest |
| 2 | Alternate step | Rest |
| 3 | Boxer skip | Rest |
| 4 | High knees | Rest |
| 5 | Side straddle | Rest |
| 6 | Fast alternate step | Rest |
| 7 | Boxer skip | Rest |
Then one minute of walking. Total rope time: about 4.7 minutes. New to these steps? See footwork in learning order.
Advanced: two Tabata blocks
After the warm-up: 8 × (20 s fastest single skips, 10 s rest), then 1 minute easy walking, then 8 × (20 s alternating 10 s high knees and 10 s criss-cross, 10 s rest). Finish with 1 minute walking. If you have double unders, replace the second block with 20 s of doubles.
Make it count
- Do it three or four times a week, with a rest day between the hard ones.
- Keep a one-line log: which workout, how it felt out of 10.
- Move up a level when the current one feels like 6 out of 10 for two weeks running.
